Immediate Release - 7 September 2017 13:30 - 2017 I BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup Debut, Hong Kong Team Vies for World Cup Qualification
(September 2, 2017 Hong Kong) The first ever BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup will be held during September 2 - 7, 2017, in Hong Kong. The top-ranked six national women’s baseball teams in Asia, including Japan (world no. 1), Chinese Taipei (world no. 6), Korea (world no. 7), Hong Kong (world no. 10), India (world no. 11) and Pakistan (world no. 12) will compete in this debut baseball tournament with the top four teams qualifying for the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2018.
Organised by the Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) and hosted by the Hong Kong Baseball Association (HKBA), the 2017 I BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup provides a platform for the growth and development of women’s baseball in Asia. The continental championships in Asia, in the form of a single round robin tournament, will be contested every two years prior to the Women’s Baseball World Cup.
The 2017 I BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup kicks off today at the Sai Tso Wan Baseball Field with the opening ceremony officiated by Tom Peng, president of the Baseball Federation of Asia, and Dr. Felix Yip, chairman of the Hong Kong Baseball Association, along with the coaches and players of the six competing teams in attendance. This will be followed by the first game: Hong Kong vs Pakistan and the second game: Korea vs Japan.
