Dominant Japan triumphed in 2017 I BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup

Post-event report - 11 September 2017 09:00 - After six days of non-stop thrilling action on the Sai Tso Wan Baseball Field, the 2017 I BFA Women’s Baseball Asian Cup finally wrapped up on Thursday morning.

Tournament favorite Japan went 5-0, conceded only a mere run in the five games and took home the championship crown, becoming the inaugural Women’s Baseball Asian Cup champion while advancing to next year’s Women’s Baseball World Cup alongside Chinese Taipei, Korea and Hong Kong.

Despite fielding an Under-18 side for the tournament, Japan still went on to showcase its baseball supremacy. The champion scored a staggering fifty-three runs and conceded only one run throughout the tournament. Japan blew past Pakistan and India with identical scores of 17:0 and Chinese Taipei was the only opponent in the tournament that actually scored on Japan.

Chinese Taipei finished the tournament as the 1st Runner-up with a 4-1 record. The side actually scored more runs than Japan in the competition by putting a whopping sixty points on the board. 2nd Runner-up Korea held a 3-2 record in the competition but recorded the biggest winning margin in the tournament, toppling Pakistan 23:1.

Tournament host Hong Kong completed the tournament with a 2-3 record. The side first demolished Pakistan and India by 17:2 and 18:5 respectively, before going on and losing to Chinese Taipei, Japan and Korea. However, Hong Kong scored a total of forty runs throughout the tournament, proving that it does possess legitimate firepower.

India notched its only victory in the tournament by defeating Pakistan 9:3, earning a fifth-place finish in the competition, while Pakistan, failing to pick up any wins, completed the tournament in the last spot.
